This is one of those super simple projects I’m ashamed I never thought of until last night. A few years ago I found this hair band on clearance. I knew I would probably never wear it, but I loved the flower so I bought it anyway. I have only worn it once until today (now it’s twice!). It occurred to me last night I could turn it in to a pin, so I did just that today.
This really doesn’t need pictures or a tutorial, but I’m going to do it anyway. 🙂
I started out w the hair band with a thick, pink elastic, a glue gun, & a hair pin with a flat disk. I later added a pair of scissors into the mix, but they didn’t make the pic.
There those scissors are! I cut the elastic off. The flower was stitched together with the elastic & a felt back, so I had to leave that part of the elastic on it.
Next, I squeezed a dab of hot glue onto the pin’s disk & stuck the felt back of the flower onto it. While it cooled, I pulled at the stringy bits & overflow, then rolled them around in a rubbery ball. Because I like to do that with hot glue.
Voilà! Now I have a hair pin I’ll actually wear.
I don’t know if this could really be called “repurposing” since it’s still used for the same thing basically. Close enough though.

I think it still counts, especially since you weren’t going to use it as it was, and now you will. I think it is really cute.
